What is an Asian ball-jointed doll? Glad you asked! Simply put, BJDs are expensive, highly-articulated dolls that are meant to be completely customized. Made out of a kind of plastic called polyurethane resin, they can range in size from very tiny to over two feet tall and are extremely sturdy. Because of the resin used to create them, they can be painted so that they match whichever personalities their owners have made for them. Wigs and eyes may be purchased in a huge variety of styles and colors in order to create a doll that is truly unique. The resin can even be sanded and shaped to create a completely different look for a standard-issue doll!

Here at Instant Karma, we have dolls from a variety of Korean and Japanese companies: Volks, Cerberus Project (Luts), Buddy Doll, K-Doll, Souldoll, and Infiniti Doll. Visit our dolls’ profiles page for more information on each of our BJDs currently in residence.

If you’re interested in learning more about BJDs, the best resource to begin is at Den of Angels. The DoA forums are extremely active (and sort of intimidating at first!) but are full of whatever kind of information you could possibly want to know about the different companies offering BJDs, including where to find clothing, wigs, and eyes, and how to care for them.

As for your hosts, we are a pair of twenty-something resin enthusiasts who spend way too much time and money enjoying our little hobby (if our friends and family are to believed, at least). Visit our other homes on the web: the Cyanotic Organization and Spiritualized!
